“Fearfully Wonderfully Made” – (Live)
I finally got a chance to record a live version of this new song I wrote back in April just this past Father’s Day. It was a great way to celebrate my first official Father’s Day singing a song I wrote for my precious little girl! This song is written as a prayer from her to God proclaiming that she is “fearfully, wonderfully made!” The lyrics come almost word for word from several scripture passages including Psalm 139:13-18 and Psalm 22:9-10.
I hope to get a chance to record a studio version soon. In the meantime you can find my other recordings in the usual places like iTunes, Google Play, Amazon & CD Baby. Here are some of the scriptures that I used in the writing of this song. I hope this song is an encouragement and blessing to all parents.
Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast. From birth I was cast on you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.
—Psalm 22:9-10
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.
—Psalm 139:13-18
For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord , my confidence since my youth. From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you. My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long.
—Psalm 71:5-6, 8
This is what the Lord says— he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: Do not be afraid. “This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the Lord , the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself,
—Isaiah 44:2a, 24
“Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, “ ‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise’ ?”
—Matthew 21:16
Lyrics
Fearfully Wonderfully Made
Before I took my first breath
You were my God
Even from my mother’s breast
I learned to put my trust in you
Before I’d uttered a word
My mouth was filled with your praise
I am fearfully, wonderfully made
By the hands of the One
Who hung the stars in the sky
Oh the Maker of all things
Formed and fashioned me
So for all my days
My lips will gladly sing your praise
For you created my inmost being
Knit me together in my mother’s womb
How precious are your thoughts toward me
You knew all my days
Before they came to be
From the lips of children and infants
You’ve called forth your praise
So let my life now be an instrument
Proclaiming your marvelous ways
Psalm 22:9-10; Psalm 71:5-6, 8; Psalm 139:13-18; Isaiah 44:2a, 24; Jeremiah 1:5a; Matthew 21:16
