An Evening Chatting & Jamming with Bryan Duncan
I grew up listening to and enjoying Bryan Duncan’s music all through high school and college. He was one of my many musical inspirations and I’m sure influenced some of my songwriting over the years. Recently we’ve been exchanging some tweets and emails and talking about getting together. We discovered that he had previously met and filmed my good friend Nick Garrett-Powell at a performance they were both playing at. My hope was that we could work something out so that we could maybe do a collaboration on a song sometime.
Well, low and behold it ends up that he was going to be in Grants Pass of all places doing an Easter concert at my parent’s church, Calvary Chapel Grants Pass! It just so happens that my wife and I were planning on driving down to Grants Pass to spend Easter with my family. Long story short after some cell phone snafus, the three of us (Bryan, Nick & I) were able to get together to chat and play some music on Saturday night before his concert.
On short notice the best place we were able to get together was the lobby of the Shilo Inn Bryan was staying at. As he put it later it was probably “the best concert in a Shilo Inn lobby for the smallest audience ever!” We had one captive audience member in the form of the hotel desk clerk. For a couple of hours we had a blast chatting about music and swapping songs back and forth. I played a few and then Bryan borrowed my guitar and sang a few with Nick backing him up on some lead.
Unfortunately, as we were all busy playing instruments the only photos I have are some screen captures from a few minutes of video I shot while Bryan and Nick were playing together. I’ll have to see if Bryan and Nick mind any of the video being released before I share any of the footage, so you’ll have to make do with this shot of the three of us (I’m reflected in the window holding the video camera).
Thanks for taking the time to hang and jam with Nick & I, Bryan! It was a blast! I hope we are able to get together and do some further collaboration in the future!
For anyone who is a fan of Bryan’s music like I am he is currently running a campaign on Indiegogo where you can help support his efforts to record a new indie album. You can find out more information here: Help Support Bryan Duncan’s New Album
