1 New Single “Thank You: A Military Tribute”

Thank You

Release Date: August 7, 2012

If Brandon Heath and Gary Sinise joined forces to create a military tribute song—this would be it. This song is an encouragement and thank you to all of our armed services that we are grateful for their service.

The new single, “Thank You: A Military Tribute”, is now available on iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby!

This is a tribute song I wrote for our troops who serve and sacrifice so that we can enjoy the freedoms of this country. Once again the amazing Nick Garrett-Powell recorded and produced this track as well as playing bass, electric guitar and singing harmonies. After more than 11 years I was able to join forces with the fantastic Jim Sitter on drums! Jim helped produce and play on many of my earlier recordings, the last being “Don’t Look Back”, and I was excited to be able to work with him again on this song.

We are planning on releasing an entire CD filled with similar tribute music, but this song will be featured early on my next full-length CD, “White.” This song is dedicated to my grandfather, Wayne Ray, who was with the 139th in WWII and my cousin, John Ray, who recently served in the Navy. Regardless of our feelings about the politics that might deploy them, we should thank and honor all of our troops for their service and sacrifice. Thank you to all of our armed services personnel!

“I know it’s not much, but this is all I have to say…
THANK YOU!”

0 New Single “Stop the Sun”

Stop the Sun

Release Date: December 20, 2011

If “You And Me” by Lifehouse collided with a Howie Day song you would get my rocking new love song single.

The new single, “Stop the Sun”, is now available on iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby!

Once again I’ve teamed up with my good friend and producer/musician extraordinaire, Nick Garrett-Powell, to deliver a new anthemic love song. “Stop the Sun” is the new single from the highly anticipated CD, “White”, due out Fall of 2012. I wrote this song shortly before Christmas 2009 as a 1st Anniversary present for my wife, Jessica.

For it seems just a glance over my shoulder when we met
But somehow a year’s flown by since the day when we were wed
Oh we’ve laughed and we’ve cried
Seen both struggles, blessings alike
I thank God for you my wife

We originally recorded the song on December 23rd and Nick added some synthesized drums and other parts to get the song ready in a single day to be given as a surprise to her on Christmas Eve, 2009. Since that time live drums, harmonies and other tracks have been added to arrive at the single you hear now.

This song speaks of wishing to be able to hold onto the special moments we have that seem fleeting. The lyrics express the wish that we could freeze time or somehow learn to “stop the sun”, like Joshua prayed and asked God to do for the Israelites.

The days have come and they have gone
Wish I’d faith like Joshua to stop the sun
A moment frozen in time
Where I could be yours and you’d be mine

This song will be featured on the upcoming full-length release, “White”, but you can enjoy it now as a preview single! Fans of Lifehouse, OneRepublic and The Script should especially enjoy this rock-inspired love ballad.

0 New Single “Before You Sleep”

Before You Sleep

Release Date: November 11, 2011

The new song is a lullaby based mostly on Psalm 121, reminding us that we can sleep in perfect peace knowing that God is watching over us, and that his eyes never close in sleep!

The new single, “Before You Sleep”, is now available on iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby!

Here is the first new single we’ve finished for the next CD, “White”, that we are working on in the studio right now. It’s a lullaby based mostly on Psalm 121 and reminds us that we can sleep in perfect peace knowing that God is watching over us, and that his eyes never close in sleep!

Then drift away, off to sleep
With a perfect sense of peace
Secure in knowing no harm will fall
For he never slumbers; but he sees all

Once again, a huge thanks to the amazing Nick Garrett-Powell who besides recording and engineering the track, played mandolin, bass, djembe, shaker, finger snaps and sang beautiful harmonies!

The inspiration for this song came from an anonymous poem that I included part of in the first stanza:

Before you sleep, just gently lay
Every troubled thought away;
Just drop your burdens and your cares
In the quiet arms of prayer.

From there I merged several thoughts from Psalm 121 and Lamentations 3:21-26 along with a few other scriptures. As one reviewer has commented:

It has a great lullaby feel to the song. As a Christian father of three young daughters I love the inclusion of Scripture in the lyrics. The last stanza is very prayerful and biblical–“Blessed is the day that the Lord has made, We all rejoice and are glad in it, But though this day is gone, We know that His mercies are new, With the coming of the dawn.” This is a great song to celebrate God’s blessings and mercies daily. —Kevin Davis
